Dedicated to becoming the best council for our residents

Kensington and Chelsea is a local authority based in the heart of London, serving one of London’s most diverse communities. We’re all in and committed to becoming the best Council for our residents.

With a rich history and a forward-thinking approach, we are dedicated to shaping the future of this iconic borough through innovation, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. We remain deeply committed to learning from the Grenfell tragedy, ensuring that our actions are grounded in the needs of our residents as we work towards building a safer, stronger community.

Here, you’re a vital part of a collaborative and supportive team. Your unique skills and insights will have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of our residents. Whether you’re delivering essential services, leading innovative projects, or engaging with our diverse community, the work you do will make a real difference.

We’re aiming to finalise our new Housing Strategy this summer, after extensive consultation with our residents. The strategy will underpin our work over the next few years, which we are determined be done in close collaboration with our residents. It is anchored in our response to the September 2024 report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and, it describes our vision to provide safe, modern homes; deliver exemplary housing services; and provide a diverse supply of homes to help residents achieve their aspirations for a settled home.

Join us and be part of a team that’s leading the way to becoming the best council while shaping a brighter future for one of London’s most vibrant boroughs.

A unique housing management department

Leading our landlord service is one of the most important, rewarding and challenging housing jobs in the UK right now. Since the fire at Grenfell Tower, the Council – and particularly the housing department – has been on a mission of fundamental change.

We’re committed to working with our residents and putting their voices at the heart of what we do, with consultation and co-production embedded in the way we work. We’ve developed a culture of openness and accountability about our work, and one that promotes curiosity about the lived experience of our residents and uses that understanding to drive change.

After Grenfell we made a promise to our residents to become the best Council and we’re all in – our team are personally and directly available and accountable to residents. The Council made further commitments to our residents after the Grenfell Inquiry Report was published in September last year, and these form the basis of what we’ll do over the coming years.

With around 10,000 homes in five square miles, our small footprint offers the opportunity to get to know our homes and our residents in depth. The department plays a key role in addressing the unique challenges of our borough, including desperate housing shortages and ambitious environmental goals. We are committed to creating safe, high-quality homes for residents, with a focus on social and affordable housing.

To introduce the role, and what we are seeking in our next Director of Housing Management, we have produced the following video to share directly the words and thoughts of Residents, Councillors, and Council executive colleagues.

Our values of integrity, respect, putting communities first and working together are at the heart of everything we do. We are united in our mission, showing resilience and creativity as we work together to create a brighter future for everyone.
