About us
Connect Housing is a values driven housing association with a strong social purpose, committed to serving the people of West Yorkshire.
Our purpose is to invest in homes and relationships that build positive futures. As housing people, we believe that safe, secure and affordable homes are the foundation for living happy, healthy lives and building neighbourly communities. This belief is why investing in people is as important to us as investing in homes. One of the ways we do this is via a variety of support services, ranging from Domestic Abuse to dementia support. In addition, building positive futures includes a strong commitment to playing our part in tackling the climate emergency’.
We provide over 3600 homes across West Yorkshire for lots of different types of households. This includes homes for families, supported housing for older people, shared ownership homes and homes for social, affordable and some market rents.
Throughout our almost 50-year history, we have played our part in place-making and regeneration, hence our being based in Dewsbury. You will find, in the ‘reports’ section, the Dewsbury Town Investment Plan as Dewsbury is a priority investment area for Kirklees Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Our Director of Customer and Community Services, a Dewsbury woman, is on the Dewsbury Town Board which attracted government funding to support the investment plan. Our office is in the Daisy Hill area, 2 minutes from the train station (which is on the TransPennine route) and a 12-minute journey from Leeds city centre. We re-located there from Huddersfield to support the regeneration plan and are actively engaged in cultural and physical regeneration projects.
Our colleagues have told us through our recent staff survey that what they love most about Connect are our people, our purpose, our caring culture and our values. What we do as an organisation resonates with our staff team and makes it more than “just a job”.
We are led by our board and executive team, who bring together a wealth of different experiences and skills. We work together knowing that, by listening and learning, we can make a difference to the lives of people in West Yorkshire.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) sits at the heart of our vision for a sustainable and just society.
Our EDI Strategy sets out our approach and EDI objectives which are currently focused on:
- Evidencing that we provide fair access to homes and services.
- Improving our data so that we understand the implications of decisions we make.
- Having a diverse workforce and board that is representative of the local population.
- Hearing the voices of our diverse customers because everyone’s voice matters and opinion counts.
In the current economic environment, our social purpose is more important than ever in tackling the inequalities in our society.
As well as complying with the Equality Act 2010, in providing protection for people against discrimination or harassment because they have (are perceived to have or are associated with someone who has) a protected characteristic, and with the ‘Public Sector Equality Duty’, in the current economic environment our social purpose is more important than ever in tackling the inequalities in our society.
