North Yorkshire

Introduction from the Chair
Dear applicant,
Thank you for your interest in joining Broadacres as a Board or Committee Member.
Broadacres operates throughout North Yorkshire, an area of high house prices and low wages making affordable homes a priority for ourselves and our stakeholders. We have two national parks, a long coastline and many market towns giving us a strong rural focus which makes us different to many housing associations. This rurality combined with high demand brings many interesting opportunities and challenges.
2023 marked 30 years since our creation as a stock transfer from Hambleton District Council. We now have over 6,800 homes, a significant and growing number of shared owners and a private sale arm (Mulberry Homes). Our local government environment has changing significantly with a single unitary council for the whole of North Yorkshire and a new mayor from May 2024.
We have an active development programme to deliver 1,000 homes over five years as we seek to address the lack of affordable homes in North Yorkshire. At the same time, we have a sector leading energy efficiency and decarbonisation programme for our existing homes as we aim to truly make our homes affordable to live in and sustainable for the future.
As well as our homes we have four extra care schemes, a women’s refuge, mental health services, learning disabilities services and a young person supported housing project. This is part of the key role we play in the communities we serve.
Broadacres puts customers at the heart of its decision making which has resulted in our priority of energy efficiency in our homes and consistently high customer satisfaction scores. We are proud of our welcoming culture and being an enjoyable place to work. We welcome different perspectives and value individuals’ lived experiences.
We have multiple opportunities to join our Board and Committees due to members who are near the end of their tenure. For one of our board members we are seeking a qualified accountant who will bring strong strategic finance expertise, and a further board member who may bring a range of skills but have a curious mind offering a different perspective at a strategic level. Our committee members will offer experience either across risk, audit and assurance, with a particular understanding around the challenges of a regulated business or bring experience across asset management & development, with a particularly understanding around the challenges of developing and managing homes in rural areas.
These are great opportunities to contribute and help continue our journey towards being the Best Rural Housing Association, to work within an organisation that is ambitious for its customers and colleagues and support the delivery of our five-year corporate strategy for 2023 – 2028.
We look forward to receiving your application.
Yours sincerely
Helen Simpson OBE
